The Mountain

The Mountain

As a thoroughbred trainer of some twenty something years, I have grown to despise the negative effect we have had on the thoroughbred breed through pampering. I believe that the process of intensive stabling and "blind, mandatory rugging" has weakened the natural defense of the breed and produced a horse susceptable to disease.
A horse should live as a horse and not as a pampered showpiece!

It was with this philosophy that I decided I could keep world-class performance horses on our mountain. Now our Mountain is not for sissies... yet for the past ten years, my Saddler stallion and an Appaloosa gelding have been roaming over 200 hectares of rough mountainside. And if they can do it, so can our Hanoverians. Even now, after only a few months of having our first foal occupy his mountainside paddock I am seeing develop a natural strength, and off course his feet are superb.
