The Hanoverian is the premier warmblood in breed in the world with the highest rankings in dressage and show jumping. Four out of the top five dressage horses at the end of 2008 were Hanoverians. They occupied first, second and third place in the rankings. At the 2008 Olympics, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals all went to Hanoverians. An impressive record which underlines the importance of the relationship between a sound breeding programma and the highest level of achievement in sport.
But the Hanoverian is certainly not the only European Warmblood breed doing well...Horses like the Gribaldi son, Moorelands Totilas who is takign the dressage world by storm, gives testiment to the wonderful cross pollination that is happening in the sporthorse world. Moorelands Totilas has in his breeding. Trakehner, Dutch Warmblood, and KWPN.
The Hanoverian Society for example licenses Holsteiner, Trakehner, KWPN, Dutch Warmblood, Thoroughbreds and even Anglo Arabs as breeding stallions if they are good enough. I believe that this sort of vision can only be beneficial for the long-term goal of any breeding program.
